Triangle, ACC shut out of top 10 in ESPN’s latest NBA mock draft

North Carolina’s Cole Anthony (2) averages more than 16 shots this season, while making 39 percent from the field. How efficient will the NBA view his freshman season in Chapel Hill if he turns pro this spring?

The NBA draft is still more than two months away — if it proceeds as scheduled — but without any pre-draft camps or workouts for the foreseeable future, the draft picture is unlikely to change as much as most years. That may not be good news for the Triangle’s draft class, which in ESPN’s latest mock draft lacks any top-10 players.

North Carolina freshman Cole Anthony is at the top of the list at No. 13 to the Portland Trail Blazers. Duke freshman Vernon Carey is next at No. 27 to the New York Knicks. Duke’s Tre Jones (38th) and Cassius Stanley (48th) are both in the second round.

There are two other ACC players in the first round: Florida State’s Devin Vassell at No. 15 and Patrick Williams at No. 20. Georgia’s Anthony Edwards is listed as the top pick, to the Golden State Warriors.

The three Triangle ACC schools haven’t been shut out of the top 10 since 2013, when Duke’s Mason Plumlee was the first player taken, 22nd overall.
