Major impact: PGA Championship set for Charlotte return in 2025
The PGA Championship is coming to Charlotte — again.
The tournament — classified as one of golf’s four major events — will be held at Charlotte’s Quail Hollow Club in 2025.
Quail Hollow originally hosted the PGA Championship in 2017. That tournament was the first “major” to ever be played in Charlotte. The 2025 PGA Championship will be the second.
The PGA Championship made the announcement Thursday morning via its website and social media channels.
In the PGA of America’s press release, Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles said: “To have Charlotte serve as the host for a second PGA Championship in eight years is an incredible honor and also reflects Charlotte’s reputation for world-class hospitality and our growth on the national stage.”
When Charlotte last hosted the tournament in 2017, the PGA Championship had a total estimated economic impact on the Charlotte region of around $100 million, according to the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority. The 2017 tournament was won by Justin Thomas, a 24-year-old American who captured his first major.
