NCHSAA makes changes to track, wrestling, swimming regionals and state finals

Due to the aftermath of a severe snowstorm over the weekend, the N.C. High School Athletic Association is making some changes to the schedule for its indoor track, dual team wrestling and swimming state championships, as well as the girls’ wrestling regional, which were all scheduled for this week.

It’s also giving basketball teams some scheduling flexibility with the playoffs just a few weeks away.

NCHSAA swimming

The N.C. swimming championships will move from Feb. 4-8 to Feb. 11-14. All diving events will be held at the Pullen Aquatic Center in Raleigh. The swimming events will be at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.

The 7A and 4A diving will be Wednesday, Feb. 11. The 6A and 5A diving will be Feb. 12 and the 8A and 1A/2A/3A on Feb. 13.

For swimming, 4A and 7A are Thursday, Feb. 12, followed by 6A and 5A Friday and 1A/2A/3A and 8A on Saturday, Feb. 14.

Indoor track and field

The reporting deadline for qualifiers is now Saturday, Feb. 7, at 9 p.m.

The meets will all be held at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem.

The new state championship meet schedule is as follows:

1A/2A: Wednesday morning, Feb. 11

3A: Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 11

6A: Thursday morning, Feb. 12

4A: Thursday afternoon, Feb. 12

7A: Wednesday morning, Feb. 18

5A: Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 18

8A: Thursday morning, Feb. 19

Dual Team Wrestling

All dual team wrestling scheduled for this week will be postponed. Revised dates are:

Rounds 1–2: February 10–12

Rounds 3–4: February 16–18

State Finals (Greensboro): Sunday afternoon, February 22.

Note: The individual wrestling finals will remain as scheduled (Feb. 19-21).

Girls’ wrestling

The regional events scheduled for Feb. 6-7 will now be held Feb. 10-12.

Basketball change

To assist schools with rescheduling challenges, the NCHSAA Board of Directors has waived a requirement that one of four allowable games in a two-week period be played on a non-school day.
