South Iredell senior enjoys milestone night in Vikings' win over softball power
South Iredell's Carsyn Benfield reached a milestone in her high school softball career during the Vikings' 9-7 victory Friday night.
The senior recorded her 100th hit as the Vikings toppled traditional power Alexander Central (12-5) in Troutman.
Addi Myers led South Iredell (12-5, 5-1), going 3-for-4 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs. Caroline Constable and CJ Haines also picked up two RBIs apiece.
A four-run fourth inning allowed South Iredell to take an 8-4 lead.
Katy Trawinski contributed two hits and an RBI.
Benfield, a catcher, signed with Tusculum University. She is batting .333 this season.
The Vikings continue their quest for the North Piedmont Conference title when they host Statesville (0-10, 0-6) on Tuesday. They entertain Hickory Ridge (11-5) in a nonconference game Wednesday before returning to league play Friday at North Iredell (8-6, 2-4).
