Top NFL Draft Prospect Hit With Concerning ‘Buyer Beware' Tag
The 2026 NFL draft has several talented wide receivers who could hear their names called in the first round.
Getting scouts and analysts to agree on who the No. 1 receiver is in the draft class is something that doesn't seem likely.
Some will say it's Ohio State's Carnell Tate, a national championship winner who totaled 51 receptions, 875 yards, and nine touchdowns in 2025. Others will say it's Arizona State's Jordyn Tyson, a first-team All-Big 12 selection who caught 61 passes for 711 yards, and eight touchdowns last season.
However, Garrett Podell of CBS Sports thinks that teams should be wary if they're considering Tyson early in Round 1 because of his injury history and his not working out at Arizona State's pro day or the NFL combine.
"His lengthy injury history is a clear red flag," Podell wrote. "Tyson blew out his knee as a freshman at Colorado by tearing his ACL, PCL and MCL in his left knee. He suffered a broken left collarbone injury that prevented him from suiting up for the Sun Devils in the 2024 Big 12 Championship Game and the College Football Playoffs.
"Tyson’s hamstring injury from the 2025 season is still bothersome to the point where he has yet to perform any athletic testing at both the combine and Arizona State’s pro day. Tyson himself knows how the optics of his latest injury have led to his draft stock to deflate, which is why he is holding a workout for NFL teams on April 17 to show he can still move at an elite level. His draft status heavily relies on him having a successful showing six days before the first round kicks off in Pittsburgh."
Podell also noted that though his durability is a red flag, Tyson is arguably the most explosive receiver in the draft after the catch, which is why he's so highly coveted by WR-needy teams picking in the top 20.
Most mock drafts have Tyson going in the 7-16 range with teams like the Washington Commanders, New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Los Angeles Rams, and New York Jets all possible landing spots.
