Gonzaga Linked to No. 3 Recruit in College Basketball Transfer Portal

The Gonzaga Bulldogs 2025-26 college basketball season ended with a second-round NCAA Tournament loss to the No. 11-seeded Texas Longhorns. It was a disappointing end for the Bulldogs, who finished the year 31-4 (16-2 WCC).

As the offseason begins to heat up, head coach Mark Few and his staff are focused on the transfer portal. Since it officially opened on April 7, Gonzaga has lost four players. That number can continue to rise with the portal remaining open until Tuesday.

However, the Bulldogs aren't just sitting by while the losses pile up. On3's Joe Tipton reports that Gonzaga is one team making a push for former Arizona State Sun Devils center Massamba Diop

"St. John's and Gonzaga have been widely viewed as the two frontrunners for Diop, the top available center in the portal," Tipton wrote. "The Zags are expected to host the 7-foot-1 freshman this weekend. With the portal, you always have to watch closely when a player gets on campus."

The true freshman just put together an impressive season with the Sun Devils. He made 33 starts, averaging 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists. He also shot 56.9% from the field and 30.8% from the three-point line.

Receiving interest from two of the most prominent programs in college basketball isn't a major surprise. On3 Industry Rankings list him as the No. 2 center and the No. 3 player to hit the transfer portal this offseason.

If the Bulldogs can land his commitment, it would be just their second addition via the portal so far. Diop could join former Houston Cougars guard Isiah Harwell as the Bulldogs attempt to replenish their lost talent.
