Mets Fans Melt Down After 11th Straight Loss

New York Mets fans thought Sunday was the day.

Through the first eight innings of the game, the Mets had kept the Chicago Cubs scoreless. After 10 agonizing losses in a row, the Mets were about to get their first win in almost two weeks.

And then, as it’s been throughout this demoralizing stretch, the Mets blew up. They allowed the tying run in the ninth, failed to score in extra innings, and Chicago walked off the Mets to bring their losing streak to 11.

Following New York’s blow-up came the New York fans’ blow-up, as they rushed to social media to complain about the second-most-expensive roster in baseball hitting rock bottom.

“Wonder if Uncle Steve [Cohen] and his boy wonder [David Stearns] will have the nerve to complain when CitiField is empty next week,” posted an angered Mets fan on X. “This team sucks. It’s not fun to watch. They don’t play hard. Nobody expected 7-15 and the season to be effectively toast before it turned to May.”

“Steve Cohen, how does it feel to pay $370+ million for this performance?” asked another frustrated Mets fan. “We just going to the whole ‘continue to be positive’ approach, which went swimmingly last year and this year, or are you going to start holding people accountable?”

“I’ve been a fan since the 70s and have seen some bad teams, but this has to be the worst team ever fielded!” chimed in an old school fan about the 11-straight defeats. “Ownership, management, and this team are so incompetent, I don’t even want my tickets anymore and wish they were paper so I could burn them. Way to go, Cohen, keep your money.”

The Mets have a day off on Monday before returning home to Citi Field on Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins. If the online response is any representation, the Mets might not get a warm welcome home in two nights.
