South Iredell softball survives at North Iredell, in position to win conference title outright

OLIN - Keyonna Waddell homered and drove in two runs as South Iredell defeated North Iredell 6-5 in Friday night's thrilling North Piedmont Conference softball game.
The Vikings scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to break a 3-all tie. The Raiders answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the seventh but fell short.
With the win, the Vikings (15-5, 7-1) clinched at least a share of the NPC regular-season championship. They lead second-place Davie County (10-9, 5-3) and Mooresville (12-5, 5-3) by two games with two games remaining and can win the title outright with a home victory Tuesday against the War Eagles.
South Iredell's Addi Myers went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Friday. Caroline Constable tripled and drove in a run, and Addison Trego provided one hit and an RBI.
North Iredell (9-8, 5-3) outhit the Vikings 12-7 and led 2-0 through four innings.
The Vikings scored three runs in the top of the fifth.
North Iredell pitcher Kynlie Moss struck out nine, walked three and scattered seven hits. Only three of the six Vikings runs were earned.
Emily Lowman homered as part of a three-hit outing for the Raiders.
Chelsea Patton and Jaycee Warren also paired hits that included home runs by each. Barrett Williams contributed three hits. Kinley Feimster doubled, and Bethany Cloer provided a big single.
BASEBALLSouth Iredell 12, North Iredell 1
OLIN - Dylan Hughesman went 3-for-4 with three RBIs on Friday night as South Iredell cruised to a 12-1 North Piedmont Conference victory at North Iredell.
Brody Hunt was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
South Iredell plated six runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game, 8-1.
Brady Robbins and Milo Peck supplied two hits apiece, and Peck drove in a run.
On the mound, Hughesman, Luke Snell and Carter Culbreth combined for a two-hitter. They retired seven batters on strikes.
The Vikings (10-10, 6-2) enter the final week of the regular season tied with Davie County (13-8, 6-2) for second place in conference. They face each other in Mocksville on Tuesday and in Troutman on Friday. Both are currently one-game back of NPC leader Lake Norman (12-9, 7-1).
North Iredell slipped to 4-16 (0-8). No individual stats were available for the Raiders.
