Wake Forest lands a shooting guard and a forward from the portal
Steve Forbes is continuing to build his Wake Forest roster through the transfer portal.
Late last week, he received a commitment from Justin Ray, a shooting guard from Monmouth.
Also committing earlier this week was forward Vincent Chaudhri from George Washington.
Chaudhri, who is 6-foot-7 and 190 pounds and from Wallkill, New York, will be a redshirt freshman this season for the Demon Deacons. He didn't play last season at George Washington.
Coming out of high school, he was offered a scholarship by St. John's, Iowa and Georgia Tech.
Ray, who is 6-foot-3 and 165 pounds, is from Taylors, South Carolina. He started 21 games for the Hawks and averaged 11.3 points per game last season as a sophomore. He also averaged 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.
While Forbes lost three key players to exhausted eligibility and eight players jumped into the portal, the coach and his assistants have commitments from four players for this coming season with Jamari McDowell (Kansas) point guard Kevair Kennedy (Merrimack) and center Antonio Dorn (Virginia Tech) also coming to the Demon Deacons.
Those five transfer portal players will join holdover Isaac Carr, a sophomore guard, as well as incoming freshmen Gavin and Gallagher Placide, twin power forwards from Dallas. Gavin is listed at 6-foot-9 and 220 pounds, and Gallagher is listed at 6-foot-8 and 205 pounds.
The Demon Deacons were 18-17 and reached the NIT for the third time in Forbes' six seasons.
The roster shakeup is the largest turnover in program history with just the one returning player in Carr.
