Heels trifecta: UNC lands a trio of recruits for new coach Michael Malone
UNC men's basketball can look back on Tuesday as a very productive day in the transfer portal.
It started with word that new coach Michael Malone had landed Terrence Brown, a guard who spent last season at Utah and whose numbers had shown steady improvement from his start at Farleigh Dickinson to this season with the Utes. He comes to Chapel Hill with one year of eligibility remaining.
Then came word through multiple reports that the Tar Heels had also secured Florida Atlantic big man Maxim Logue, who will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Logue is a 6-foot-7 sophomore originally is from France. His college career started at Oregon State, where he appeared in 21 games. He collected 60 points, 42 rebounds and five blocked shots. The year included a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds against UCF in the College Basketball Crown event.
After transferring to Florida Atlantic, Logue played in 28 of the team's 33 games last season. He improved his stat line, averaging 11.1 minutes, 4.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. He recorded double figures four times, including 16 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime win against Charlotte.
Logue also competed for Team France in several European events.
Reports also indicated that the Tar Heels completed the day with what amounts to an I-40 transfer.
Matt Able, who played at NC State during his freshman season, is trading Wolfpack red for Carolina blue. Able, like Logue, will have three years of eligibility left.
The former four-star recruit from Baltimore ranked among the top 30 players in the class of 2025. While he didn't start a game, the 6-foot-6 wing still averaged 21.8 minutes per game and averaged 8.8 points per game and shot 35.5% on 3-pointers. He scored 19 points and grabbed six rebounds in 31 minutes during the Wolfpack's 82-58 win over North Carolina.
Before the Able move, former Tar Heel wing Dontrez Styles used his final year of eligibility playing for the Wolfpack after a stop at stop Georgetown. Also, Ven-Allen Lubin left Chapel Hill after the 2024-25 season and signed with NC State.
Juke Harris sweepstakes
Former Wake Forest guard Juke Harris had UNC as one the schools in his sights after he left Winston-Salem to enter the portal, but reports suggest he may wind up just across the border in Tennessee.
All For Tennessee reports that because the Tar Heels signed Brown and Able, Harris is a prime candidate to play for Coach Rick Barnes in Knoxville.
According to AFT, Barnes has a long-standing relationship with Harris going back to high school, which would work in his favor. However, the report also said Michigan also is in the running for the 6-foot-7 Harris as well.
