Blue Jays Announce Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Career Milestone in 8th MLB Season

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. reached a significant milestone Friday, playing in his 1,000th career MLB game as the Toronto Blue Jays hosted the Cleveland Guardians.

What makes this achievement notable is Guerrero Jr.'s age. The 26-year-old first baseman has packed a career's worth of production into those 1,000 games, slashing .290/.367/.494 with an .861 OPS, 185 home runs, 603 RBI and a 34.0 WAR in his first 999 games since making his MLB debut on April 26, 2019.

In his success through 2026, Guerrero Jr. has earned some silverware, including five All-Star nominations, two Silver Slugger awards and a Gold Glove award. His 2021 campaign saw him as the runner-up to Shohei Ohtani, even though he led all of MLB in runs, home runs and total bases as well as leading the AL in OBP, Slugging and OPS.

Naturally, his numbers resemble those of a very familiar player. Guerrero Jr.'s father, Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero Sr., slashed .323/.390/.588 with a .978 OPS with 234 home runs and 702 RBI throughout his first 1,000 games, numbers that edge out his son across the board.

Shockingly, Guerrero Jr. has drawn more walks than his father did through the same stretch, 443 to 380, reflecting a more patient approach as well as pitchers fearing Jr.'s power at the plate, helping sustain his on-base percentage throughout his career.

Both paths lead to the same conclusion: elite production at the highest level, separated by different eras.

Guerrero Jr. has carried that production into his 8th MLB season in 2026, with a .337 batting average on 30 hits, including five doubles and two home runs with 12 RBI. His hot start has been one of the few bright spots this season, given the challenges the Blue Jays have faced so far, as well as their fourth-place standing in the American League East with a 10-14 record.

The milestone comes less than a year after one of the defining stretches of Guerrero's career. In Toronto's run to its first World Series since 1993 last postseason, he led all of MLB in OPS, total bases, RBI and runs scored, hitting eight home runs and cementing himself as one of the game's best players.

At 26, with 1,000 games now under his belt, Guerrero Jr. figures to add many more milestones while leading his team to success in a career that's just getting started.
