Browns Named Loser After Selecting Another QB in NFL Draft

This question is basically asked every year: What are the Cleveland Browns doing at the quarterback position?

Going into the 2026 NFL Draft, the Browns had all three of Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson on the roster.

So, it didn't seem like they would take another quarterback, right?

Well, the Browns did just that and selected Arkansas QB Taylen Green at the beginning of the sixth round. Now, let's pump the brakes: Green isn't going to compete for the QB1 job, at least right away.

Still, this adds more question marks to an already-confusing QB room.

John Breech of CBS Sports had some winners and losers of the NFL Draft, and he had the Browns QB room as a loser after the selection of Green.

"Apparently, the Browns' plan at QB is to keep drafting quarterbacks until they actually find one. With the pick of Green, they're the first team since the 2010-11 Panthers to select three quarterbacks in a two draft span," Breech wrote.

"The problem with having four quarterbacks is that it's tough to get snaps for everyone during practice. If you need proof of that, just look at Sanders. After being selected in the fifth round last year, he got almost zero first team reps during training camp last season. With a new head coach on the job in Todd Monken, all four quarterbacks are going to be learning a new offense so getting reps will be important," Breech added.

Green is a Todd Monken pick, and the new head coach probably saw glimpses of Lamar Jackson (although nowhere near the talent of the Ravens star).

Still, it's a surprising pick, and raises questions of what the plan is.

Browns Plan to Keep Four QBs For Now

For those wondering about a potential trade for one of the Browns quarterbacks, ESPN's Adam Schefter put that to bed after the selection of Green.

"Despite drafting QB Taylen Green today, the Browns say they have no plans to trade QB Dillon Gabriel," Schefter wrote on X.

A year ago, veteran Joe Flacco was named the QB1, then traded later on and replaced by Gabriel, who later lost the job to Sanders.

So, who knows what the Browns are thinking, and at the end of the day, it is just a sixth-round pick.
