Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby Taking Indefinite Leave of Absence Due to Gambling
The Texas Tech Red Raiders landed arguably the top players in this year's college football transfer portal, with Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Brendan Sorsby coming to Lubbock.
Unfortunately, the Red Raiders will be without Sorsby for an indefinite period of time as he enters treatment due to gambling addiction.
Texas Tech and Sorsby announced the news on Monday, via multiple reports.
Sorsby spent two seasons at Indiana and then the past two at Cincinnati, and he had 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns with just five interceptions in 2025 with the Bearcats.
Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire issued a statement after the news came out, via college football insider Matt Fortuna.
"We love Brendan and support his decision to seek professional help. Taking this step requires courage, and our primary focus is on him as a person. Our program is behind Brendan as he prioritizes his health," McGuire said.

NCAA Reportedly Investigating Sorsby
To make things more complicated for Texas Tech and Sorsby, the NCAA is reportedly investigating Sorsby for Gambling, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.
"Sorsby's decision to seek treatment for gambling addiction, according to sources, came in the wake of the discovery of Sorsby making thousands of online bets on a variety of sports via a gambling app, which jeopardizes his eligibility with Texas Tech," Thamel wrote. "The NCAA is investigating Sorsby's gambling, according to sources, as the organization forbids athletes from betting on both college and pro sports."
Thamel adds that sources told ESPN that Sorsby bet on games in 2022 while he was at Indiana, although none of them were games that he played in.
To go even further, there is a scenario where the NCAA suspends Sorsby for some time due to gambling on his own team while he was on the roster.
Pete Nakos of On3 reported that Sorsby will be in rehab for around 30 days, but questions loom large about how the NCAA disciplines the Red Raiders quarterback.
