Dodgers Manager Announces Shohei Ohtani News Before Marlins Game

The Los Angeles Dodgers improved to 20-9 after a 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Monday, keeping their strong start to the 2026 season going amid an 11-day streak of daily games without days off.

The schedule has factored into how the Dodgers have managed two-way phenom Shohei Ohtani, whose role as both a hitter and pitcher remains one of the main storylines across the MLB.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed after Monday's win that Ohtani will start on the mound Tuesday.

"Tyler [Glasnow] pitched a lot. That's the thing," Roberts said. "We don't have to just be beholden to the off-day. We talked to Shohei. He feels good about going on Tuesday."

However, when asked about whether Ohtani will also hit against the Marlins, Roberts made it clear that won't be the case.

"He is not going to hit tomorrow," Roberts said to close his media availability.

Roberts' decision marks the second time in Ohtani's last three starts that he will pitch without taking on his usual two-way duties.

Roberts acknowledged the outside talk about Ohtani's workload and its management, but indicated the Dodgers' focus remains on managing him day-to-day instead of looking at the bigger picture and further into the future.

"Hopefully, he doesn't put too much weight into it," Roberts said. "I don't talk to him too much about it, to be quite honest, but he is well aware of what's being said about him. But again, I think right now, all he's thinking about is today. And then at some point in time, I'll have a conversation with him."

Ohtani has been dominant on the mound, entering Tuesday's start with a 2-0 record and a 0.38 ERA across four games, allowing just one earned run on 12 hits and striking out 25.

On the plate, Ohtani is slashing .278/.398/.500 with 30 hits in 108 at-bats to go with six doubles, six home runs, and 13 RBIs.

Asked about his two-way usage and how the Dodgers are managing it, Ohtani deferred to Roberts' decisions and said he will accept whatever the team's coaches decide.

"I'll always let the manager make that final decision, and I'm always going to be prepared that, when I'm starting, I'm hitting," Ohtani said. "But if it makes sense as a team to occasionally put a guy in as a DH or hit later, that's fine as well."

Los Angeles hosts the Marlins on Tuesday with the first pitch scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET.
