Adam Schefter 'Scolded' His ESPN NFL Colleague, Dan Orlovsky
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter has enough experience in the sports media industry to give sage advice to almost anyone. But sometimes the advice comes in the form of a scolding, as analyst Dan Orlovsky learned the hard way.
Appearing on Bussin' With The Boys, Orlovsky revealed that when he first started working at ESPN he had a tendency to make posts that were just the "emoji eyes." Orlovsky said that his posts got him a call from Schefter who complained that he shouldn't be making posts like that because it makes it seem as though he knows more than he's letting on about certain newsworthy topics.
"When I first started working at ESPN, so like 8 years ago, I sent out a tweet with like the emoji eyes, just that. I don't remember for what. He called me within 30 seconds," Orlovsky said. "He's like, ‘what's that?' I'm like, ‘what do you mean?' He's like, ‘what's your tweet about?' I'm like, ‘I don't know I think I'm just being stupid or something like that.' He was like, ‘don't do that.'"
"He's like, ‘don't do that because if you do that it makes me think that something's going on.' I'm sorry I will not do that."
Unheeded Advice
That said, Orlovsky hasn't exactly taken the advice to heart. Just a few weeks ago he did that exact same thing again, posting the eyeballs emoji several times on April 11 as the Dianna Russini-Mike Vrabel story was becoming national news while ESPN barely broached the topic.
Nevertheless, the "scolding" that Orlovsky receives seems to say a little bit more about Schefter than it does about Orlovsky.
Ironically, the Russini-Vrabel story has put a greater focus than ever about conduct in sports media. Russini, a former ESPN employee in her own right, is now out of the industry entirely and it remains to be seen if she'll ever return.
The entire situation has really put more emphasis than ever on how sports media people use their platforms.
