WR Jauan Jennings Reportedly Visiting NFC North Team

NFL free agency officially opened in the second week of March, and while the ink is dry on all the most lucrative signings, there are still several free agents who could be meaningful contributors next season.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings, 28, is one of them.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that Jennings is “visiting tonight and Wednesday with the Minnesota Vikings.”

The Vikings’ purported interest in Jennings makes all the sense in the world.

Minnesota lost wide receiver Jalen Nailor earlier in free agency, as Nailor signed with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Signing Jennings would not be a one-to-one replacement for Nailor, as they are completely different types of receivers. Nailor is a slot receiver and vertical threat, while Jennings has built his name on his consistent hands and third-down reliability. But Minnesota’s wide receiver depth falls off a cliff after All-Pro Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.

Whether it’s Kyler Murray or J.J. McCarthy under center as the Vikings’ QB1 next season, he’s going to need more than that.

Meanwhile, the 49ers signaled their willingness to move on from Jennings during free agency and in last week’s 2026 NFL Draft.

A split between Jennings and San Francisco felt inevitable, regardless, however, after Jennings publicly demanded a new contract or a trade last July. The 49ers added $3 million in incentives to Jennings’ existing contract last September, per Schefter, but did not commit beyond that.

San Francisco signed veteran Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans to a hefty three-year contract and signed veteran journeyman wide receiver Christian Kirk to a one-year deal. The 49ers’ first pick of the draft was Ole Miss wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling at No. 33 overall.

The 49ers drafted Jennings out of Tennessee in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Jennings has rarely missed time in the five seasons since - openly admitting to playing through various injuries last season - and has become a cog in San Francisco’s offense over the past two seasons. In 2024, he caught a career-high 77 balls for 975 yards and six touchdowns. Last season, he posted 643 yards and nine touchdowns on 55 catches.
