Russell Wilson Drawing Interest From Intriguing AFC Team
The long NFL career of quarterback Russell Wilson could continue during the 2026 season.
Wilson spent a decade with the Seattle Seahawks after being drafted in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.
He then spent two seasons with the Denver Broncos, one year with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the 2025 campaign with the New York Giants.
Wilson's best years came with the Seahawks, and he was benched in 2025 despite starting the season as the Giants' starting QB.
Now, the New York Jets have brought in Wilson for a visit, according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
"The Jets hosted Russell Wilson for a visit and are considering him as an option to be Geno Smith's No. 2 quarterback, according to a source," Rosenblatt wrote.
The Jets acquired Geno Smith in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders and moved on from Justin Fields, who was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs.
So, for now, Smith figures to be the starter once again for the team that drafted him coming out of West Virginia.
And, it seems Smith is on board with Wilson coming in as the QB2.
"Geno Smith was presented with various options at backup quarterback and he was excited about the prospect of Russell Wilson, per source. Jets and Wilson spoke at some point prior to the draft and scheduled Monday night's visit then," Rosenblatt added.
Where Wilson Would Fit With the Jets
Wilson would almost certainly be the backup if he comes to the Jets, and he could be an option to start if Smith gets injured or doesn't play well early on.
The Jets selected Clemson QB Cade Klubnik in the 2026 NFL Draft, and the other signal-caller is 2025 draft pick Brady Cook.
Wilson and Smith were teammates with the Seahawks, so there is familiarity there.
On Russell Wilson and the #Jets: Nothing is imminent, I'm told, but there's plenty of mutual interest.

One of the biggest proponents in the Jets building for getting Russ?
Geno Smith.
The Jets went to Geno about the idea and he raved about Wilson's work ethic, what he meant… pic.twitter.com/zwemAZyx7Q
Wilson wouldn't have to move far, either, since he played for the Giants in 2025.
The Jets could use some experience at the QB position, and Wilson would certainly make sense for both sides in hopes of continuing his career and having an opportunity to earn playing time.
