Jets Showing Interest in Super Bowl-Winning Quarterback

The New York Jets made an aggressive push to get better during the 2026 NFL Draft by making three selections in the first round.

Defensive end David Bailey will give the Jets a boost at getting after the quarterback. Tight end Kenyon Sadiq and wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. will combine with Garrett Wilson to make a formidable trio of targets for a secondary to defend.

However, the Jets don’t have an elite quarterback to throw those targets the football this fall.

New York traded for Geno Smith this offseason, but there’s a reason why the Las Vegas Raiders gave him up before selecting Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 pick. The Jets took Cade Klubnik in the fourth round, but the former Clemson quarterback will be a project for offensive coordinator Frank Reich.

Per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, the Jets are showing an interest in veteran quarterback Russell Wilson. They hosted him for a visit.

“The Jets hosted Russell Wilson for a visit and are considering him as an option to be Geno Smith’s No. 2 quarterback, according to a source,” Rosenblatt posted on X.

Wilson, who won Super Bowl XLVIII with the Seattle Seahawks, most recently played with the New York Giants in 2025. The 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback threw for 831 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions last season. He went 0-3 as a starter for the Giants.

Jets general manager Darren Mougey was the assistant general manager with the Denver Broncos when Wilson was in Denver.

Rosenblatt noted that the Jets would plan for Wilson to be the backup quarterback to Smith. Given the way head coach Aaron Glenn played musical chairs at the quarterback position last season, there could be a legitimate opportunity for Wilson to earn the starting job at some point during the season.

At the very least, Klubnik would have another veteran quarterback to learn from.
