John Daniel wins individual title, Reynolds wins team title at Central Piedmont golf championships

ADVANCE - John Daniel of Reynolds captured the individual title and helped the Demons to the team title at the Central Piedmont 8A/7A Conference championship tournament at Oak Valley.

Daniel, a sophomore, shot a 2-under round of 70 to edge Kevin Zhang of West Forsyth and Gianni Alfaro of East Forsyth by one shot.

Zhang was the runner-up for the second straight year.

Andrew Jenkins, a freshman at Reynolds, finished fourth with a score of 73 and junior Charlie Zaks was tied for ninth after a 4-over round of 76.

Reynolds entered Monday's championship match with an 11-stroke lead over West Forsyth and an 18-stroke lead over Northwest Guilford during the regular season.

The Demons won the conference tournament by six strokes with a score of 298, with the Titans and Vikings tied for second place at 304.

Jack Splawn and Cole Taylor of West Forsyth each shot 77s and finished tied for 11th.

Cameron Harvey, Wilson Davidson and Brady Jones of Northwest Guilford shot matching 73s to finish tied for fourth and kept the Vikings right in the thick of the race for the team championship.

Reagan's Connor Lynde was eighth after posting a 2-over 74, and his teammate Will Zapadka tied for ninth with a score of 76.

Daniel, Harvey, Lynde, Jenkins, Zhang, Aiden Koontz (West Forsyth), Lincoln Heinsohn (Reynolds), Alfaro, Zapadka, Jones, Zaks, Taylor and Splawn were all named to the all-conference team.
