Cubs Announce Nico Hoerner News After Leaving Diamondbacks Game

The Chicago Cubs are coming off a two-game win streak and hold a 19-12 record, sitting as the 2nd seed in the National League Central entering Friday. Second baseman Nico Hoerner is among the Cubs' best players this season.

He has led the team in batting average, hitting .291 with a .370 on-base percentage and an .819 OPS, along with four home runs and 26 RBIs over 31 games.

The 28-year-old infielder has been with the Cubs for more than 8 seasons after being drafted in the 1st round of the 2018 draft. He just recently signed a six-year, $141 million contract extension in March 2026 to keep him in Chicago long-term.

Unfortunately, Hoerner was unable to complete Friday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, leaving the game early.

After doubling and scoring in the first, he was seen grimacing while running the bases. He was replaced by pinch-hitter Matt Shaw when his spot in the lineup came up again in the second inning.

Moments after his early exit, Chicago announced an update on his status. "Nico Hoerner left the game with left sided neck tightness, per the team," reported Jesse Rogers of ESPN.

Losing a player like Hoerner puts pressure on the Cubs' infield stability and could lead to inconsistency, depending on the severity of the injury.

It is still May, and early in the season for the Cubs, but they will need to be cautious with their 28-year-old second baseman. Injuries can linger, potentially affecting the team's success as it builds on its strong start.

The Cubs understand how essential he is to their performance as one of the top teams in the league. Keeping Hoerner healthy remains a top priority for the club moving forward this season and beyond.
