Lenoir-Rhyne men's, women's lacrosse each place eight on all-conference teams
The Lenoir-Rhyne men's lacrosse team has placed eight individuals on the All-South Atlantic Conference team.
Regular-season champion Wingate led the way with 10 honorees while Anderson was just behind with nine.
Donovan Powell (attack) and Mac Murphy (defense) were named to the All-SAC first team; Morgan Madish (midfield), Deacon Medwick (defense), John Mink (long pole), and Owen Peters (goalkeeper) to the All-SAC second team; and Jarrett Huff (attack) and Matthew Mancini (face-off specialist) to the All-SAC third team.
Powell leads the team with 72 points coming off 41 goals and 31 assists. He is tied with Ned Kaish for seventh all-time on the Lenoir-Rhyne points list with 170 for his career. This is his second consecutive All-SAC selection after being named to the second team last year. Freshman Mac Murphy has been a key piece of coach Greg Paradine's defense this season, ranking second on the team with 14 caused turnovers and starting in all 14 games. He was a menace against Coker, causing four turnovers and picking up four ground balls.
Madish has posted 18 goals and 13 assists on the year for a total of 31 points. His season high of seven points came against nationally ranked Newberry early in the year. This is his second consecutive all-conference honor.
Medwick has started all 14 games he has played for the Bears this season, causing seven turnovers and picking up 14 ground balls. His third-quarter goal against Wingate on March 25 started a 5-0 Bears run to pull away.
Mink is the team leader with 16 caused turnovers. He was named SAC Defensive Player of the Week after causing three turnovers and picking up five ground balls against Anderson.
Peters has won every game he has started this season, going 8-0 with a .604 save percentage. He leads the conference in save percentage and goals against average (6.93).
Huff ranks second on the team with 53 points. A consistent performer over the last four years, he will finish his career ranked in the top 10 in program history for points, goals and assists.
Mancini has established himself as one of the best face-off weapons in the country these past few years. This year he ranks No. 10 in the country with a .661 face-off percentage. Mancini is Lenoir-Rhyne's all-time leader with 449 ground balls and second with 731 face-offs won.
Women's team sets new record
A record eight LR women's players have been named to the All-SAC team.
Wingate led the way with 11 honorees this year, following by Lenoir-Rhyne's eight and Anderson's six.
Anneleise Meyer (midfield), Hailey Larsen (midfield), Keegan Hudspeth (defense), Delaney Williams (defense) and Sally Friesen (goalkeeper) were named to the All-SAC second team, while Kirra Olson (attack), Abbey Walker (attack) and Caitlyn Race (defense) were All-SAC third team honorees.
Meyer has done it all this season, leading the team with 27 caused turnovers while also scoring 23 goals, dishing out eight assists, picking up 32 ground balls and posting 28 draw controls.
Larsen has come in this season and established herself as a key piece of this team, leading the Bears with 64 draw controls. In addition to her draw control prowess, Larsen has scored 15 goals and dished out seven assists.
Hudspeth has started all 16 games as a true freshman for the Bears, ranking second on the team in draw controls (45) and third in caused turnovers (22).
Williams made her mark in her lone year in Hickory, ranking second on the team with 25 caused turnovers and being named the SAC Defensive Player of the Week in April. Her six caused turnovers against Anderson is tied for third in program history.
Friesen is making her second all-conference appearance after being named to the third team last season. She has 98 saves on a .403 save percentage and has started all 16 of Lenoir-Rhyne's games this spring. The senior ranks third all-time in both saves (423) and wins (24).
Walker is the team leader with 53 points. Her seven goal, three assist week against Barton and Anderson earned her SAC Offensive Player of the Week honors in April. Her 10-point performance against Lincoln Memorial is tied for the second most points in a game in LR history.
Olson is making her second appearance on the All-SAC team, earning second team honors last year. The senior leads the team with 42 goals and has scored in all but one game this year. Her 137 goals and 177 points each rank fourth in program history.
Senior Caitlyn Race has started in 15 games this season, totaling 18 caused turnovers and 28 ground balls. She has played in 66 games during her career, just three away from being top 10 all-time in that category.
