Tennis Legend Serena Williams Sizzles In Beach Photo At 44
The legendary Serena Williams seems to be enjoying life away from the court.
Williams, 44, had a remarkable run in the WTA from 1999-2017. She won a whopping 23 Grand Slam titles and was ranked No. 1 in the world for 319 weeks. To this day, she owns the most singles titles in the Open Era. Her popularity was so undeniable in the 2000s that she was asked to pose for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit.
"I want to come away with the fact that it's O.K. to be comfortable in your body," Williams said, via SI Swimsuit. "I've never worn a thong before, and the second I stepped out there, I was comfortable. And what I would like for people to come away with is-first of all, I'm not a size 2-and it's O.K. to look good, to feel good. And I'm strong-it's O.K. to look strong and to be sexy and to be a woman and to be unbreakable and to be all those things.
Although it doesn't sound like Williams will return to SI Swimsuit for this year's issue, she posted a few photos from the beach that grabbed everyone's attention.
"Sand?? Girl, get on the grass," Maria Sharapova commented.
"GIRL YOU LOOOOOK GOODTTTT OKAY," Simone Biles wrote.
"Nice to see Queen Serena still holding serve," one person said.
"Body. Face. Dress. Smile. PERFECTION," an Instagram user wrote.
Is Serena Williams coming out of retirement?
The Athletic shocked the tennis community last December by announcing that Williams reentered the registered testing pool for the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).
When asked on "TODAY" about potentially coming out of retirement, Williams refused to give a straight answer.
"I mean, really, are you asking this on the ‘Today' show? Oh, my goodness," Williams said. "I'm just having fun and enjoying my life right now. That's not a yes or no. I don't know. I'm just gonna see what happens."
Tennis fans haven't seen Williams in action since her loss to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the 2022 US Open. If she comes out of retirement, that would certainly give the WTA Tour a shot in the arm.
