Jets Should Fill Their Last Roster Hole With ‘High-Reward' Free Agent

The New York Jets ended last season with a 3-14 record in their first year under head coach Aaron Glenn, so they have plenty of rebuilding to do.

Now that the 2026 NFL draft is over, it’s crystal clear what remaining holes there are in the Jets’ lineup that need to be filled. One of those holes is obviously at the cornerback position. The team needs a veteran presence here to add strength and depth.

Lucky for them, former Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers cornerback Trevon Diggs is still available.

Jets Should Make a Move on Trevon Diggs

Diggs still holds the title for the most interceptions, at 11, in 2021 by any player in a season in the last four decades. His last three seasons have been difficult, since he’s been dealing with injuries, but when he’s healthy, he’s on.

Matt Okada of the NFL’s official website also digs the idea of Diggs going to the Jets, pun intended.

“Diggs is the perfect low-cost, low-risk, high-reward signing for a team like the Jets,” he states in the piece. “If he can't rediscover his early upside, then no harm, no foul; the team signed Nahshon Wright and drafted D'Angelo Ponds at the position.”

He adds: “But if the 27-year-old harnesses his Pro Bowl form once again, Gang Green could get an excellent bargain and end up with a sneaky-strong secondary next season and beyond, despite trading Sauce Gardner away last November.”

Okada also notes that the Jets, believe it or not, have “managed zero interceptions over the entirety of the 2025 season remains one of the most absurd facts I’ve ever encountered. It's unconscionable.”

That’s a brutal stat, but the good news is that Diggs is waiting in the wings. The Jets should jump at the chance to get him.
