Tom Brady Sends "Non-Negotiable" Message to NFL Rookies

Getting advice from a legend like Tom Brady can mean a lot. While he no longer has a locker room to share his wisdom, the retired NFL star has other platforms to send his message. In his most recent effort, Brady had some words for the 2026 NFL Draft class.

As a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, the seven-time Super Bowl champion had the opportunity to draft the No. 1 overall pick, Fernando Mendoza. The former Indiana Hoosiers QB had spoken highly of Brady prior to the NFL draft. As Mendoza and other rookies entered the league, they received a significant message from him.

In the latest edition of his newsletter 199, the New England Patriots legend laid out several important pointers for the draft class. Brady emphasized that getting drafted may feel "accomplished," but the real work has only just begun. He also shared advice on how to survive in the NFL by balancing personal and professional life.

"The first priority every person should have is their physical and mental health", said Brady. According to him, this must be "non-negotiable" for any NFL player. "You can't achieve maximum desired impact in anything you do if you don't take care of yourself physically and mentally. I would argue it's impossible".

The 48-year-old further advised rookies to find things they will be "obsessed" with. Brady wrote, "Things that stimulate your head, your heart or your wallet. If you find something that does all three, like football did for me, then you've truly hit the jackpot".

The three-time NFL MVP played in the league for 23 seasons. With over two decades of experience, it's evident how much value his words carry. For rookies who may feel overwhelmed by the challenge of earning a starting position, Brady's advice could prove invaluable.

Many young stars, most notably Caleb Williams, have developed in the sport with guidance inspired by Brady. As the Raiders look to develop Mendoza, their minority owner will once again pass on his experience to the rookie.

Brady concluded his newsletter by reiterating the importance of "taking care of yourself." Mental health has long been a concern across the NFL, and his willingness to speak openly about it could have a positive impact, not just on the 2026 draft class, but on players across the league.
