Drake Maye Makes Feelings on Patriots-Stefon Diggs Reunion Perfectly Clear
The New England Patriots have been rumored to be trading for Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown for weeks.
And while that deal is expected to still happen after June 1, the Patriots could be eyeing another 1,000-yard receiver to join their wide receiver corps. According to the Daily Mail, Vrabel is interested in reuniting with Stefon Diggs, who the team cut earlier in the offseason to avoid his $26.5 million salary next season.
"The Daily Mail has been told that Patriots coach Mike Vrabel, who has been dealing with his own off-season problems, would be interested in a reunion with Diggs," the outlet reported. "A host of other teams are also interested in recruiting the 32-year-old."
With rumors of a Diggs-Patriots reunion gaining momentum, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was asked his thoughts on the situation by The Associated Press Wednesday at the Truist Championship Pro-Am in Charlotte, North Carolina.
"Well, you know, he’s always been a great teammate to me, and I know he’ll do great things," Maye said. "I was fortunate enough to have a year with him, and I’m looking forward to seeing what happens to him. He’s a great player."
After an injury ravaged 2024 season with the Houston Texans, Diggs bounced back last season with the Pats. He recorded 85 receptions, 1,013 yards, and four touchdowns while developing a strong rapport with Maye.
If Diggs were to come back to New England, he wouldn't have the pressure of carrying the WR corps all by himself like he did the previous year.
The Patriots signed former Green Bay Packers wideout Romeo Doubs to a four-year, $68 million deal in free agency.
And if they acquire Brown next month, Diggs could slot into the lineup as a high-end WR2 or WR3 and give Maye an even better supporting cast than he had last year when he finished as MVP runner-up to Los Angeles Rams QB Matthew Stafford.
