Lenoir-Rhyne softball advances to SAC championship; baseball falls in semifinals

The Lenoir-Rhyne softball team advanced to the championship round of the SAC Tournament with a 2-1 win over Emory & Henry on Saturday.

Lani Warren and Faith Carrigan each hit solo home runs to give the Bears the win. Carrigan picked up the win in the circle, striking out four in the complete game victory.

Warren went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the game. Her homer was the 39th of her career, tying Kat Rivers for fifth all-time. Carrigan brought her season ERA down to 1.95 with the win.

The Bears will host the SAC Championship Series starting Thursday. The series will be a four-team, double elimination bracket that takes place Thursday through Saturday. The Bears are looking to win their third straight SAC Tournament championship.

Baseball falls in semifinals

The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears' quest for their first SAC Tournament title since 2022 ended on Sunday as they defeated Newberry 12-10 before falling to Wingate 12-11 in an elimination game.

The offense showed up in the opener, going off for 12 runs on 15 hits. The top six batters in Lenoir-Rhyne's lineup all had two hits, led by a five-RBI, two-run performance from Lleyton Lackey.

Game two saw Lenoir-Rhyne get out to an 11-6 lead before Wingate scored six to advance to next weekend's SAC Championship series vs. Catawba.

All but one player in the LR lineup put up a hit in game two led by Seth Christmas, who went 3-for-4.
