Jets Make Breece Hall Third-Highest Paid RB in NFL With Massive Extension
The New York Jets made it clear they wanted to keep star running back Breece Hall around.
The team placed the franchise tag on him after the season ended in an effort to buy some time as they worked out a long-term deal. General manager Darren Mougey even told reporters after the draft that things were trending in the right direction.
"Things are in a good place and I’m hopeful with Breece," Mougey said. "Obviously, we’ll get through this draft process and after the draft, I’ll shift my focus back there and hopefully get something done with Breece."
Well it didn't take Mougey long to make good on his promise as the Jets locked Hall up to a multiyear contract extension on Friday.
"The #Jets and star RB Breece Hall have a deal, extending him long-term rather than have him play on the tag," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport posted on X. "It's a 3-year, $45.75M deal worth $15.25M per year."
"Cried for the first time since I tore my ACL. This day really hit different for me man🙏🏾🤞🏾," Hall posted on X minutes after the news broke.
The contract makes Hall the third-highest paid running back in the NFL on a per-year basis, behind only Philadelphia's Saquon Barkley ($20 million) and San Francisco's Christian McCaffrey ($19 million) and right above Baltimore's Derrick Henry ($15 million).
In terms of total value, Hall's deal is the fifth-highest among RBs behind Arizona Cardinals rookie Jeremiyah Love, Green Bay's Josh Jacobs, New Orleans' Travis Etienne, and Buffalo's James Cook.
The 24-year-old Hall is fresh off the best season of his career. He rushed for 1,065 yards and four touchdowns while adding 36 catches, 350 yards, and a touchdown through the air.
Though Hall has been proclaiming himself one of the top RBs in the NFL for years now, and his new contract seemingly justifies his claims.
