Blank slate: UNC Greensboro wins SoCon softball title on second straight Shroyer shutout
She apparently liked what she did on Saturday, so UNC Greensboro pitcher Brooklyn Shroyer did it again on Sunday.
Shroyer threw a second straight one-hit shutout against Samford in the Southern Conference softball tournament championship game, and a pair of home runs helped make the performance stand up as the Spartans won the conference title with a 4-0 victory in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The team is expected to huddle in front of a computer or television on Sunday evening to find out where it will be going as the conference representative to the NCAA tournament.
Shroyer, who struck out seven and walked three, threw her 14th complete game of the season with her third one-hitter of 2026. She completed her 47th game and won her 21st. It was UNCG's 17th shutout this season, two short of the 2000 mark.
UNCG (42-17) got the only run it would need in the bottom of the second when Rylie Williams homered to left field on a 3-2 pitch. Avery Bouquin added a two-run homer in the third to pad the lead, and Madelyn McKinnon added more insurance with a RBI-double in the fourth.
