NFL Fans Annoyed With Cowboys-Giants Week 1 Matchup

The NFL has officially set its Week 1 Sunday Night Football game for the 2026 regular season. It's an unsurprising pick.

The first Sunday Night Football game of the 2026 NFL regular season will feature the New York Giants and the Dallas Cowboys. The two NFC East franchises will meet at Metlife Stadium on Sunday evening in Week 1. It's yet another Week 1 matchup between the Cowboys and the Giants.

There have been a lot of them.

In fact, this will be the ninth time that the Cowboys and the Giants match up in Week 1. That's by far the most of any two NFL teams over the past 20 years. The next closest is four different matchups that have taken place five times.

The NFL confirmed the matchup on Monday morning, May 11. It's official - the Cowboys and Giants will open the year in primetime once again.

Dak Prescott and Co. will travel to New Jersey to take on Jaxson Dart and the upstart Giants, who are now led by Super Bowl-winning head coach John Harbaugh.

NFL fans, though, are not happy with the matchup

NFL fans are not happy. They're sick and tired of seeing the Cowboys and the Giants always playing in primetime.

"There's an entire generation of young fans who think the season has to start this way lol," one fan joked.

"Death Taxes Cowboys Giants week 1 Sunday night," one fan added.

"We always be the first to open out the season either Thursday or Sunday lol," another fan joked.

"Dallas was 7-9 and the Giants were 4-13 and this is the first Sunday night football game of the season? 🤮," one fan added.

"Titans fans in shambles finding out the NFL doesn't actually see them as one of the Giants rivals," another fan joked.

"Should've been Eagles Giants on MNF. The fatigue I have from this matchup on primetime is unmatched," another fan added.

"If I'm not mistaken, this will be the 7th time in the last 10 years Dallas will open up the season in a standalone primetime game. You can hate the star, but you love to watch," one fan added.

The critics can say what they want, but the TV ratings have made it clear: everyone loves watching the Cowboys in primetime.
