Flyers Announce Owen Tippett Injury Update After Playoff Exit

The Philadelphia Flyers provided a significant health update on forward Owen Tippett following the team's playoff elimination against the Carolina Hurricanes.

In an official statement released Tuesday, Tippett revealed he missed the entire second-round series because of an internal bleeding issue suffered during Philadelphia's first-round victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

"I was unable to return for the Second Round series vs. Carolina due to an internal bleeding issue that I sustained during the First Round series vs. Pittsburgh," Tippett said in the statement.

The 27-year-old explained that he underwent multiple medical evaluations, treatments, and rehabilitation sessions with the Flyers' medical staff during the postseason. Although he was eventually cleared to travel and skate in limited practices, he never progressed enough to safely return to game action.

"Things did not progress at a pace that I hoped for or would allow me to safely continue playing," Tippett added.

Reports during the playoffs also indicated Tippett was dealing with a sports hernia, adding to the physical challenges he faced during Philadelphia's postseason run.

The Flyers were swept by Carolina in four games during the Eastern Conference Second Round, ending their season with a 3-2 overtime loss in Game 4 on May 9. Despite the disappointing finish, the season marked major progress for the organization under first-year coach Rick Tocchet.

Philadelphia finished the regular season with 98 points and secured its first playoff appearance since 2020. The Flyers also defeated Pittsburgh in six games during the opening round before running into the top-seeded Hurricanes.

Tippett expressed confidence about his recovery and expects to be ready for training camp in September.

"I am beyond proud of what our team has accomplished this season and truly moved by the tremendous support of the fans...," Tippett said. "I am confident for a full recovery and look forward to returning for training camp in September and an exciting year ahead for this organization."

The Flyers will hope to build on this foundation next season.
