Fred T. Foard boys golf finishes 2nd at state tournament, 7 Catawba County golfer in top 15
The Fred T. Foard High School's boys golf team left Longleaf Golf Club with a 4A state runner up plaque and three top 10 individual finishes this week.
Only Stuart W. Cramer and the Tigers were in contention for the title for most of the event. They finished day one in first and second respectively. Cramer finished at 567 over the two-day 36-hole event. Foard shot a 578 and Lincoln Charter was 37 strokes behind the Tigers in third place.
Jaydon Delvechio paced the Tigers and took third individually in the tournament with a 140 (-2). David Gee took fifth at 142 (E) and Brewer Lael finished eighth at 143 (+1).
They were among seven Catawba County players in the top 15. Newton-Conover's Jack Phillips tied for sixth and Nick Anderson tied for eighth. Brenan Cody of Maiden took 12th with a 150 (+8) and Landon Heers of Bandys shot a 152 (+10) for 15th place.
6A state tournament results
South Caldwell's Carter Pelfrey shot a 155 (+13) in the 6A state tournament on Monday and Tuesday. He finished in 19th place for the Spartans.
St. Stephens sophomore Isaac Long shot a 164 (+22) in the tournament for 36th place.
