Sixth-seeded Wake Forest baseball team will play in ACC Tournament on Wednesday

Wake Forest will open ACC Tournament play in baseball on Wednesday as the sixth seed.

The tournament will run for six days at Truist Field in Charlotte.

Coach Tom Walter and his Demon Deacons will play Wednesday in the 9 p.m. game against the winner of the game between No. 14 Pittsburgh and No. 11 Louisville game, which is scheduled for Tuesday.

The Demon Deacons have won 10 of their last 11 games, losing their final regular-season game at Duke 7-3 on Saturday. The Demon Deacons are 38-18 overall and ended up 16-14 in the ACC.

"It could have been a different story, so it's a disappointing loss for us," Walter said on Saturday, "but I feel we're playing good baseball right now, and we'll be ready to play next week."

All 16 ACC teams will compete in a single-elimination championship. The top four seeds are based on the performance in the regular season and receive a double-bye into the quarterfinal round, which is scheduled to be held on Thursday and Friday. North Carolina (2), Florida State (3) and Boston College (4) join Georgia Tech, which is the top seed, with double byes.
