Weddington takes 1-0 series lead over South Iredell in softball region finals

WEDDINGTON-Game 1 of the 7A West Regional final softball series went to Weddington on Tuesday night. The top-seeded Warriors (24-0) prevailed 8-1 over No. 2 seed South Iredell (22-7).

South Iredell will try to extend the series Wednesday when it hosts Game 2 in Troutman at 6 p.m.

Game 3, if necessary, will be at Weddington at 6 p.m. Friday.

The West Regional champ advances to the next week's 7A state championship series to meet the winner of the East Regional final matchup between D.H. Conley (23-2) and Heritage (23-2). Heritage leads 1-0 after beating D.H Conley 11-8 in Game 1 of their series Tuesday.
