Colts Could Look for Daniel Jones Successor Immediately: NFL Insider
On the back of a promising start to his career with the Indianapolis Colts, Daniel Jones signed a two-year, $88 million contract extension with the team.
The contract has $50 million guaranteed, meaning it’s more of a one-year deal for the Colts, who could decide to move on from Jones if he struggles in the upcoming season. Jones, the No. 6 pick by the New York Giants in 2019, went 8-5 as a starter with the Colts last season. He threw for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.
Jones had a roller-coaster career with the Giants, and there is skepticism that he’ll have a better season with Indianapolis coming off the Achilles injury that ended his season in December.

Anthony Richardson is not an option, as the Colts are expected to part ways with the 2023 first-round pick by next offseason, if they cannot find a trade partner sooner.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated hinted that Indianapolis would have interest in taking Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby in the supplemental draft this summer. The NCAA declined to reinstate Sorsby’s eligibility for the upcoming season after the quarterback successfully completed an inpatient rehab stint for gambling addiction and an anxiety disorder, though his case is set to be heard in court.
“The NFL has given Sorsby's camp a window of July 5 to 12 to work out for teams should he enter the supplemental draft,” Breer wrote. “The expectation would then be that he'd have a pro day in the Dallas area and perhaps do a couple of private workouts for teams that show interest. The draft would be in late July.
“This is only getting more interesting, especially with a number of teams that didn't spend top-50 picks on quarterbacks in April having their eyes on the 2027 class, and a few, like the Steelers and Colts, still could take a swing here.”
Breer noted that the league could suspend Sorsby for the upcoming season like it did in 2011 for Terrell Pryor. Pryor was suspended 11 games in 2011 in connection with a memorabilia-for-cash scandal at Ohio State.
Sorsby was expected to be in the running to become a first-round pick in the 2027 draft. The Colts could use a first or second-round pick on him this summer, giving the young quarterback an opportunity to learn behind Jones before playing in 2027.
It would give the Colts some insurance at quarterback if Jones cannot stay healthy or regresses this fall.
