Cowboys QB Dak Prescott Receives Major Off-Field Recognition for Impact Beyond the NFL

Dallas Cowboys star Dak Prescott has earned a few nicknames since he started his football career. Some of them were earned because of his age, while others came from his skills.

Others were due to his physical appearance. Fans have had fun giving him nicknames. Among them is "Dak Dynasty" as a nod to his role as the Cowboys' cornerstone. He is also called "Unc" by his teammates for being the longest-tenured player on the roster. Teammate Jake Ferguson also called him the "Mailman" for his ability to deliver for the team.

Now, he has earned one more nickname - and it came while the NFL season is on break.

The 32-year-old quarterback was recognized by the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) for his off-field endeavors, earning the 2026 Good Guy Award. Prescott beat Cleveland Browns offensive lineman Joel Bitonio and Chicago Bears safety Kevin Byard III for the award, which is given to NFL players who display exceptional professionalism, class, and accessibility to the media at both the local and national levels.

The PFWA said there is mutual trust between Prescott and media members.

"Dak Prescott is one of the more accessible star players in the NFL. He talks once a week during the season and, of course, after every game. However, if Dak is needed for an off-the-record conversation, he's there for you," association president and Dallas PFWA chapter vice president Calvin Watkins said through the organization's website.

"Dak explains the game to you from a game-plan standpoint and reviews certain plays if you ask. The trust he has with the beat writers is respected on both sides. He understands the job of reporters more than anybody."

This is the second time Prescott has been honored for his impact on the community, having won the 2022 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.

Prescott is a pass-first quarterback recognized for his accuracy and elite decision-making. These qualities also extend to communities in need. He built the Faith Fight Finish Foundation to honor his late mother and brother. The foundation seeks to help people through mental health awareness and suicide prevention initiatives, support colon cancer research, and help young people navigate life and relationships with law enforcement.
