President Trump, Zohran Mamdani Agree On 2026 NBA Finals
President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani may not share the same political views, but it turns out they're agreement when it comes to the 2026 NBA Finals.
Trump revealed on Wednesday that he was planning to attend Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. The New York Knicks, however, derailed the president's plans by sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers. As a result, he'll now try to attend an NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden instead.
"I was invited – I was going to go on Wednesday, but they closed it out very quickly," Trump said. "Jim Dolan, as you know owns and is in charge of Madison Square Garden, is having a great year. What a team! I think I'll be going to one of their games."
Trump, a Queens native, will be rooting for the Knicks to win their first championship since 1973.
While speaking to the media this Thursday morning, Mamdani made it clear that he's also hoping the Knicks win the championship.
"One of the few things that the president and I agree on is not just that New York City is the greatest city in the world, but that we do want the Knicks to win the championship," Mamdani said. "I can tell you in this city the level of excitement for the five boroughs is something we haven't seen for some time."
Are the Knicks the team of destiny?
The Knicks won't be lacking confidence when the NBA Finals begin on June 3, that's for sure.
Jalen Brunson, OG Anunoby and Karl-Anthony Towns have been outstanding throughout the postseason, leading the Knicks to 11 straight wins. Their last loss came on April 23.
Do you think the Knicks will take care of business against the Western Conference champions?
