Caitlin Clark Said Fever's Rotations Were Slow, Stephanie White Responds
Caitlin Clark had a lot to say about the Indiana Fever's 100-84 blowout loss to the Portland Fire on Saturday night.
The loss marked Indiana's second straight defeat, dropping them to 4-4 on the season.
Clark had a forgettable evening, finishing with six points on 1-of-7 shooting, two rebounds, six assists and a steal in 22 minutes of play. The two-time All-Star missed both of her three-point attempts.
Clark battled foul trouble all night long. Head coach Stephanie White pulled Clark out of the game with three minutes left in the first quarter after the 6-foot guard committed her second foul. Clark struggled to find her rhythm and the Fire took full advantage.
At one point in her postgame interview, Clark admitted that she thought their "rotations were a little bit slow," particularly in the third quarter. Portland poured it on in the third, blitzing Indiana 37-25.
The Fever superstar also reiterated that she hopes the rotations are "a little bit quicker" moving forward.
Coach White responded. When asked by a reporter about Clark's comments on the substitution patterns, the veteran coach kept it real.
"I don't know if foul trouble has a lot to do with rotations," White said after the loss. "I think it's just anticipation.
"I think it's activity, anticipation and awareness. We talk about our three A's all the time: active, aware and anticipate.
"When we started going to some of our doubles, we were slow in our rotations, and we've got to anticipate when. We've got to be active and get there quickly.
"But there has to be a sense of urgency, and I thought that they played with more urgency than we did."
Simply put, the Fire outplayed the Fever on Saturday night, and White called it as it is.
The good news for Clark and Co. is that their next game is just around the corner. They have an opportunity to snap their two-game losing skid on Thursday in a highly anticipated matchup against Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream.
