Sophie Cunningham Scolds WNBA Fans After Uncomfortable Encounter

As the WNBA grows in popularity, the league's players are having to deal with more fan encounters. There's good and bad that comes with that.

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham is one of the league's more popular players. Cunningham, traded from Phoenix to Indiana prior to last season, plays alongside Caitlin Clark. She played collegiately at Missouri and has a big following on social media, hosting a "Show Me Something" podcast with "Summer House" star West Wilson, who she knew from her time in Missouri.

Cunningham, 29, recently had a fairly uncomfortable encounter with a WNBA fan, though, as she scolded everyone to do better.

Cunningham admitted on an episode of her podcast that she had a fan drive half a mile in an attempt to get her attention - and snag a photo.

It's too much.

"I had someone drive like half a mile to like follow me to my car to take a photo with me?" Cunningham said. "And I was like what? Like how it's like just so random."

Cunningham is urging all WNBA fans to do better

It's understandable for fans to want photos and interactions with their favorite athletes. However, everyone needs to utilize some common sense.

You should not be tracking or following an athlete to get something.

"We always talk about how someone is like famous or in the public eye, and they're doing something, I would never bother them," Cunningham said. "Like, I would never go to the lengths that some of these people go to just to get a photo."

Cunningham, meanwhile, ended up re-signing a short-term deal with Indiana prior to the 2026 season. The Fever are off to a tough start, at 4-4 on the year, but there's a long way to go.
