Three-time Olympian and retired runner Jenny Simpson collapsed and was rushed to the hospital while pacing a group at the Sir Walter Miler Pop Up Miles event in Raleigh, Letsrun.com reported Tuesday night.

Sir Walter Running confirmed the occurrence of an incident involving Simpson on social media Wednesday morning. Pat Price, a co-founder of Sir Walter, told Letsrun.com shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday night that Simpson was without a pulse for a period of time, but she was alive and in the hospital.

“Jenny is receiving excellent medical care,” the Sir Walter statement read, ”and our thoughts are with her and her family during this time.”

Simpson is a one-time bronze medalist, placing third in the 1,500-meter race at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She has also won one gold and two silver medals in the World Championships.

Simpson won four individual Division I championships for Colorado and represented the United States in the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Olympics. She retired from professional running in 2024 after the New York City Marathon.
