Canada vs Mexico: Who Ranks Higher in the Latest World Cup Power Rankings?
We’ve reached the second match day for all the 48 nations at the World Cup, and we already have our first team who has booked their ticket to the Round of 32.
On a wild day full of action, Mexico ended it by defeating South Korea in a close 1-0 contest to wrap up Group A and make sure they’ll be playing their first bracket stage game at home in Mexico City.
But how well did they do in the new updated rankings?

South Korea and Mexico was my most anticipated game of the day but turned out to be quite the passive contest, with the Asian team looking scared to fully attack until the final 10 minutes of the game when they were down a goal. Overall, Mexico got the result (which is most important), yet didn’t impress, instead, like in the South Africa game, capitalizing on their adversary’s mistakes and finding the big saves on defense when needed.
Canada was the opposite, which looked inept in the opposing penalty box in the first game against Bosnia, but crushed Qatar by six goals and, honestly, could have put up eight or nine. It wasn’t all good news, however, as pivotal player Ismael Kone went down with a leg injury that will keep him out of the rest of the tournament and possibly the next half year.
While a few teams moved up and down (sorry, South Korea), the most prominent movers on the board are the aforementioned Qatar and South Africa, who was last place in the rankings since Day 1 of the World Cup.
With their tie of Czechia, South Africa has finally made it out of the bottom of the rankings.
Qatar, who got two red cards today, and looked like they didn’t belong on the same field as Canada, is the worst any team has played at the World Cup. Straight to the bottom for Qatar, until at least they stop injuring players haphazardly.
