Giannis Antetokounmpo Could Get Traded This Week, According to NBA Insider

The endless gossip about Milwaukee Bucks All-Star and two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo has grown tiresome because nothing has actually happened.

Antetokounmpo, 31, has not publicly commented on wanting a trade, let alone demanded one, and the Bucks have not dealt one of the best players the franchise has ever seen.

The talk could finally lead to action in the coming days, according to prominent NBA voice Zach Lowe.

"I would still bet on him - I want to use that language - getting traded before the draft,” Lowe said on the June 19 episode of his eponymous podcast for The Ringer. “I think everyone kind of wants this to happen.”

The first round of the 2026 NBA Draft will take place Tuesday, June 23, with the second round following on Wednesday, June 24.

Lowe continued:

“My favorite bit of reporting in the last week has been, ‘Sources say Milwaukee doesn't love Miami’s offer.’ Really? Is that a revelation? Because if they loved Miami’s offer I think he'd be on Miami and would have been on Miami, like, two months ago.

Miami is in it. Boston is in it, to some degree. The degree I’m not entirely sure what it is, but they’re in it. I wouldn’t even rule out a mystery team still kind of lurking on the fringes. And, obviously, all of this - a lot of it anyway - is contingent on where Giannis is going to be willing to indicate that he will sign an extension in October. I still think it happens before the draft, if only because Milwaukee will want a first-round pick in this draft.”

If it comes down to the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat, please let Antetokounmpo land in Boston. It would be exponentially more fun and interesting to watch an all-time player of Antetokounmpo’s stature back to playing meaningful basketball again - and have a legitimate shot at his second ring.

Antetokounmpo and the Bucks beat the Phoenix Suns in the 2021 NBA Finals - he won Finals MVP - to capture their first NBA title since 1971. Since then, the Bucks have not advanced beyond the Eastern Conference semifinals. They flamed out in the first round for three straight years before missing the playoffs entirely this season.

Antetokounmpo is coming off the worst individual season of his 13-season NBA career. He was limited to a career-low 36 games due to calf and knee injuries.
