Former Mexico Mayor Sandra Cuevas Defends Her Bold Outfit at World Cup Celebration
A former Mexico city mayor is defending the outfit she wore during a World Cup celebration over the weekend.
Mexico is one of three hosts for the 2026 World Cup. The United States, Canada and Mexico are hosting games this year. Mexico has gotten off to a great start. The Mexican men's national team is 2-0 through two games, having taken down South Africa and then South Korea.
Sandra Cuevas, who served as mayor of Cuauhtémoc from October 2021 to March 2024, turned heads in a revealing top while celebrating a goal and win for Mexico.
The former mayor drew comparisons to Mar Castro, who became a national star in Mexico during the 1986 World Cup when she was dubbed, "La Chiquitibum."
Video of her outfit quickly garnered one million views on X, formerly known as Twitter.
While some fans loved it, others took issue with it. However, the former Mexican mayor defended herself on social media.

The former Mexico politician defended herself.
"The Chiquitibum… well, guys, what can I do, I can't just take them off. They had already nicknamed me that in 1986 and it amuses me, I like it," she said of the viral "passing of the torch," reports The Sun.
"I don't take it as an attack, there will be those who think that way and take it in a derogatory way, but that's how we Mexicans are."
Mexico, which has already guaranteed a spot in the Round of 32, is set to wrap up group stage on Wednesday, June 24 against Czechia.
The game will begin at 8 p.m. E.T.
