Wake Forest mens basketball team adds 18-year-old from Slovenia
Coach Steve Forbes has added what will likely be the final piece of his roster for this coming basketball season at Wake Forest.
Over the weekend, Lukas Bojovic, an 18-year-old from Slovenia, committed to play for the Demon Deacons. He's a 6-foot-5 wing who played recently for an under-19 team in the Serbian ABA League.
Last season, he averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 assists, 2.4 steals, and 3.2 rebounds per game while shooting 47% from the floor and 36% from beyond the arc.
He scored 34 points and had 11 assists earlier this year in a game against Veba Basket. In that game, he was 10 of 13 shooting and 12 of 12 on free throws.
The European prospect played for the last four seasons for Partizan, where he made his professional debut.
Eurobasket named him the All-Serbian Junior League Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, First Team, and All-Defensive team.
According to reports, he'll play next month in Trento, Italy, for the Slovenian National Team in the FIBA U18 EuroBasket tournament.
Bojovic is the eighth player from the transfer portal committed to Forbes for this season.
The other seven transfers who have committed are forward Ring Nyeri (Northern Colorado), center Xander Pintelon (Florida Atlantic), center Antonio Dorn (Virginia Tech), guard Jamari McDowell (Kansas), point guard Kevair Kennedy (Merrimack), Vincent Chaudhri (George Washington) and shooting guard Justin Ray (Monmouth).
The other two freshmen on the roster are twins Gavin and Gallagher Placide, who are from Dallas. Gavin is listed at 6-foot-9 and 220 pounds, and Gallagher is listed at 6-foot-8 and 205 pounds.
The only returning player for Forbes who had extensive playing time is sophomore Isaac Carr.
Kennedy was the first player in MAAC history to be named Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year in the same season in the conference's 45-year history.
"He is a two-way player who can score the ball and guard the ball. Since he's been on campus, I've been very impressed with his ability to get people involved on offense while picking and choosing the right time to attack and score with the ball in his hands," Forbes said over the weekend in a news release. "Kevair is tough minded, physical, and loves to compete. We are excited to have him in our program."
