NC State assistant coach leads Air Force team to volleyball title
N.C. State volleyball assistant coach Nicki Holmes recently led the U.S. Air Force women’s team to the championship last week at the 2016 HQ AirCom Volleyball Championships held in London.
The United Kingdom hosted the event, which featured Royal Air Force personnel competing against other nation’s Air Force Teams.
Holmes guided the USAF team to wins over the Royal Netherlands and the Royal Air Force on the first day of competition, winning each game 2-0 (best of 3). The USAF defeated Poland 2-0 and Germany 2-1 on the second day of matches.
The USAF met Germany in the championship match on the third day of competition and earned a 3-0 victory in a best-of-five sets format to claim the 2016 HQ AirCom Volleyball Championship.
Basketball
Duke: Blue Devils guard/forward Brandon Ingram continued to add to his postseason haul Wednesday when he was one of five first-year stars named to the USBWA Freshman All-America Team.
Football
Elon: Forty-one players have been selected as members of the 2015 CAA Football Academic All-Conference Team.
Men’s golf
N.C. State: After a fifth-place finish at the recent General Hackler Championship, which featured three golfers in the top 15 of the tournament field, the Wolfpack returns to action this weekend at the 2016 Schenkel Invitational.
Women’s soccer
Duke: In February, head coach Robbie Church announced his latest freshman recruiting class. The six, originally selected as the No. 5 class in the nation, have moved up to No. 4 overall in rankings by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Track and field
Saint Augustine’s: With the indoor season concluding last weekend, the men’s and women’s teams will open the outdoor season in the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational Thursday through Saturday at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. The 2015 men’s national championship outdoor track and field team will be honored at halftime of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament game Thursday between the University of Virginia and Hampton University at PNC Arena.
Wrestling
Duke: Four Blue Devils qualified for the NCAA Championships after earning automatic berths at the ACC Championships.
N.C. State: The Wolfpack, newly crowned ACC Champion, and third-ranked Virginia Tech will be in the running for the team title at the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Championship, which begins Thursday at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
