Wolfpack earns softball win over USC Upstate

Junior Tyler Ross clubbed a pair of home runs and matched her career best with five runs batted in (RBI) to lead the N.C. State softball team to an 8-0 run-rule victory against USC Upstate Wednesday afternoon at Dail Stadium.

N.C. State moves to 16-18 on the season, while USC Upstate falls to 28-8.

Campbell: The team tied its longest game length in program history, going 13 innings in a 4-3 loss in game one against UNCW. The Fighting Camels took game two of the doubleheader, shutting out the Seahawks 4-0, holding the opposition to five hits.

Men’s Basketball

Mt. Olive: Senior Dontrell Brite grabbed All-American Honorable Mention honors by Division II Bulletin it was announced this week.

Baseball

Duke: Six pitchers limited Liberty to a lone fifth-inning run and the Blue Devils totaled 12 hits to defeat the Flames, 6-1, Tuesday evening at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

NC State: The No. 17 Wolfpack won 7-1 on Tuesday night against Charlotte, before 7,438 at BB&T Ballpark, home of the Triple-A Charlotte Knights.

Wake Forest: Ten Demon Deacon pitchers combined to allow just one earned run in a 4-3 victory over Elon at Latham Park on Tuesday night.

Mt. Olive: The Trojans defeated Francis Marion 13-8 Tuesday night in non-conference baseball in Florence, S.C. Stephen Wallace led the charge with a three-run home run in the fourth.

Men’s Lacrosse

Duke: Junior midfielder Deemer Class continues to reap awards following his thrilling nine-point performance against Syracuse last weekend, earning the USILA /Lids Team Sports Division I Offensive Player of the Week. Class finished with seven goals and two assists against the Orange and 10 goals overall on the 1-1 week for the Blue Devils.

Field Hockey

Duke: Incoming freshman Margaux Paolino will join the U.S. U21 junior national team at this week’s Junior Pan American Games in Trinidad & Tobago. Blue Devils assistant coach Britt Broady will also travel with the squad as a member of the U21 coaching staff.

Women’s Soccer

NC State: Head coach Tim Santoro announced the addition of Tom Anagnost (uh-Nag-Nist) to the program as an assistant coach.

Track and field

Saint Augustine’s: The Saint Augustine’s University men’s and women’s track and field teams will make their annual trek to the Florida Relays outdoor meet, which will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Percy Beard Track on the University of Florida campus. The starting collegiate times are 2 p.m. on Thursday, noon Friday, and 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Saint Augustine’s enters the meet ranked second nationally in the NCAA Division II men’s rankings and third in the NCAA Division II women’s rankings. The Falcons are the three-time defending NCAA Division II men’s outdoor champions.
