Senior center Dearica Hamby had 23 points to lead Wake Forest to a 69-53 win over Boston College in the opening game of the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday at Greensboro Coliseum.
The No. 13 seed Deacons (12-19) advanced to Thursday’s 11 a.m. game against No. 5 seed Syracuse (21-8), while No. 12 seed Boston College finished its season 13-17.
Amber Campbell added 12 points for Wake Forest, which is the only team to have won a game in each of the last seven ACC tournaments.
Nicole Boudreau, Emilee Daley and Ashley Kelsick led the Eagles with 12 points each.

Georgia Tech 80, Clemson 53: Aaliyah Whiteside poured in 23 points and Roddeka Rogers added 20 with 14 rebounds, leading Georgia Tech in a romp in the nightcap of the first round of the tournament.
The win propelled the No. 11 seed Yellow Jackets (18-13), who never trailed after the opening minute in their third win against the Tigers this season, into Thursday’s 8 p.m. second-round game against No. 6 seed North Carolina (23-7).
The Tar Heels won their only regular-season meeting with Georgia Tech 96-81 on Jan. 11 in Chapel Hill.
Zaire O’Neil added 10 points for Georgia Tech.
Hillside alumna Chelsea Lindsay scored 12 and Shelbie Davenport and Cha’Nelle Perry chipped in 10 each for No. 14 seed Clemson (9-21).
