Sure, there are still bowls left to play for several teams — including all three Division I FBS teams in the Triangle — but the college football offseason kicked into high gear on Monday, Dec. 5, with the opening of the transfer portal window.

A change to the system for the 2023 transfer portal process promises to make this season’s process different than in past years. Players are no longer allowed to enter the portal at any time, but instead are confined to a certain window. With a few exceptions, FBS players can only enter during a winter window, the first of which runs from Dec. 5 to Jan. 18.

More than 3,000 players entered the transfer portal during the 2021-22 cycle. This year, with the continue emergence of NIL rights and the continuation of one-time exemptions, combined with a compressed window for activity, the process could be chaotic.

Graduate transfers are allowed to enter the portal at any time, as are players who experience a coaching change.

UNC coach Mack Brown said on multiple occasions last month that he would give players who enter the portal the option of participating in the bowl game. Carolina plays Oregon on Dec. 28 in the Holiday Bowl, but it is not yet known which players will stay for that game.

Here is a list of players from ACC schools in the Triangle who have entered their names into the NCAA transfer portal, plus the names of players who have announced they are transferring into those schools with their former school in a parenthesis:
