The NCAA women’s basketball offseason is officially here, but the transfer portal opened last month as teams’ seasons ended.

N.C. State and North Carolina got a late start because of their Sweet 16 runs, while Duke — pending any surprises — does not expect to have any players transfer out of the program.

The portal closes April 22, the final day undergraduate players can enter their names. They do not, however, have to choose their new programs by then.

The Wolfpack finished the season 28-7 and landed at No. 9 in the final Associated Press Top 25. N.C. State fell to LSU, 80-73, in the Sweet 16 after the Tigers retook a late lead. Three players have entered the portal, but none was a major contributor to the lineup this season.

UNC also finished its season in the NCAA Tournament, losing to Duke, 47-38, in the lowest-scoring Sweet 16 game in tournament history. The Tar Heels ended with a 29-8 record and a No. 11 ranking in the final AP poll. Only one player has entered the transfer portal for the Tar Heels and it’s picked up another.

The Blue Devils finished the season 29-8 overall. It led the ACC in the AP Top 25, coming in at No. 7, following their 54-50 loss to South Carolina in the Elite Eight. It won the ACC Championship for the first time under fifth-year head coach Kara Lawson. Additionally, the program was one of the best defenses in the nation and held every NCAA Tournament opponent under 55 points. In its four March Madness games, Duke allowed 42.5 points per game.

Reigan Richardson was the only player expected to depart for the Blue Devils after exhausting her eligibility. Four have entered the portal.

Oluchi Okananwa opted to enter the transfer portal over the weekend. Okananwa came off the bench in her two seasons but made an impact, earning conference recognition both years.

Wake Forest missed the ACC Tournament and finished with a 9-20 record and only won two games during conference play. Four Demon Deacons players entered the transfer portal, but Makaela Quimby withdrew. Its most significant losses are Riley Theuerkauf, the team’s leading scorer, and Demeara Hinds, the team’s leading rebounder.
