After two years out of college basketball’s top spot, Duke will take the court as the nation’s No. 1-ranked team.

The unbeaten Blue Devils moved to the top of the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll on Monday, three days after they knocked off previously No. 1-ranked Gonzaga, 84-81, in Las Vegas.

Last ranked No. 1 in November 2019, Duke carries that ranking into an ACC-Big Ten Challenge game at Ohio State Tuesday night.

This is the 145th week Duke has been ranked No. 1 in program history. The Blue Devils have reached No. 1 in the polls at some point in 21 of Mike Krzyzewski’s 42 seasons as their head coach.

Duke (7-0) started this season ranked No. 9, moved up to No. 7 after beating Kentucky, 79-71, and No. 5 last week.

Now, for the first time this season, the Blue Devils will play a team on its home court. The wins over Kentucky and Gonzaga occurred on neutral courts.

Ohio State (4-2) began the season ranked No. 17 but fell out after losing 71-65 at Xavier and 71-68 to Florida on a neutral court in Fort Myers, Florida.

ESPN will televise the Duke-Ohio State game as part of an ACC-Big Ten Challenge doubleheader tonight. The Florida State at Purdue game, beginning at 7:30 p.m., precedes Duke-Ohio State so there’s a chance the late game’s tip will be delayed a few minutes.

Karl Ravech, Jay Bilas and Holly Rowe will broadcast the game for ESPN.
