How to watch or stream Duke vs USC Upstate college basketball game on Friday night
Duke’s post-Coach K era opened with a win that goes on new coach Jon Scheyer’s record.
After leading No. 7 Duke to a 71-44 win over Jacksonville Monday night, Scheyer looks to double his win total when the Blue Devils face South Carolina-Upstate at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Duke (1-0) will have another talented player available for the game. Dereck Lively, a 7-1 freshman center, missed the Jacksonville game due to a calf muscle strain he suffered in practice last month. Scheyer said Friday, following the team’s gameday shoot-around session, that Lively was cleared to play and would be in uniform and available for the USC-Upstate game.
Both Lively and 6-6 freshman forward Dariq Whitehead were medically cleared to practice in contact situations this week. That meant working in five-on-five drills, which is a precursor to being activated to play in games. Whitehead is recovering from a right foot fracture he suffered on Aug. 29. He also wasn’t in uniform for the Jacksonville game and isn’t expected to play until later this month.
After playing USC-Upstate, Duke’s next game will be Tuesday against No. 5 Kansas in the Champions Classic double header at Indianapolis. So getting Lively some minutes on Friday night would help Duke be closer to full strength against the reigning NCAA champion Jayhawks.
